The University of Calabar has released the list of approved sporting events for the 28th edition of the Nigerian University Games (NUGA), scheduled to be hosted by the institution in 2026.

According to a memo issued by the Directorate of Sports, a total of 28 sporting events will feature at the Games, covering a wide range of disciplines including athletics, football, basketball, volleyball, swimming, tennis, table tennis, badminton, cricket, hockey, handball and rugby.

Other approved events include boxing, wrestling, judo, karate, taekwondo, squash, chess, scrabble, kickboxing, baseball, beach soccer, beach volleyball, rowing, canoeing and sailing, strongman, esports, and five-a-side hockey.

The release of the approved games marks another milestone in preparations for the multi-sport event, which is expected to attract student-athletes from universities across Nigeria.

The 28th NUGA Games will bring together participants from tertiary institutions nationwide to compete across various sporting disciplines while promoting sportsmanship, talent development and unity among students.

With the list of approved events now made public, anticipation continues to build ahead of what is expected to be a memorable edition of the Nigerian University Games at the University of Calabar.
