The Vice Chancellor of the University of Calabar (UNICAL), Professor Offiong Effanga Offiong, is scheduled to address members of the media today, June 18, 2026, on the institution's preparations for hosting the 28th Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) Games.

The press conference will hold at the Senate Chamber of the University by 10:00 a.m. and is expected to provide updates on the university's level of preparedness, strategic plans and expectations for the national sporting event.

In a notice issued by the Registrar of the University, Dr (Mrs) Chukwuka Icha, all staff, coaches—both full-time and part-time—as well as student-athletes have been directed to be seated at the venue by 9:30 a.m.

The Registrar also instructed coaches to ensure that all athletes under their supervision attend the briefing, stressing that attendance is mandatory.

According to the notice, the approved dress code for the event is sports attire, in line with the spirit of the games and the university's commitment to sporting excellence.

The press conference is expected to serve as a platform for engaging stakeholders and mobilising support ahead of the 28th NUGA Games, which the University of Calabar is preparing to host in 2026.

Members of the university community have been encouraged to participate actively as the institution intensifies efforts towards a successful hosting of the games, widely regarded as one of the biggest sporting competitions in Nigeria's university system.
